IS A HOMESCHOOL STUDENT ALSO CONSIDERED AN MCS STUDENT?

Technically, no. As a homeschool family, the parent stands in as the primary instructor of courses and the facilitator of all the child’s school records. The parent will be accountable to the state through the local superintendent with notifications and assessments. MCS will partner with the parent in providing some of the necessary requirements for course progression. The Homeschool student receives many of the advantages through the family partnership that the MCS student has. However, your family is considered a separate entity under the traditional home school regulations. We can support you in providing a classroom environment and substitute teachers in place of your primary teaching obligation. Nevertheless, at the end of the day, you are responsible for the totality of your child’s education. We can help you add to your educational plans and reinforce your teaching efforts through campus classes and school activities, but we cannot supersede your parental obligation to the state.

HOW DOES THE HOMESCHOOL STUDENT DIFFER FROM THE MCS STUDENT?

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A VIRTUAL/ONLINE SCHOOL AND TRADITIONAL HOMESCHOOLING?

ARE THERE EXCEPTIONS TO THE “ONE YEAR OF PREVIOUS HOMESCHOOLING EXPERIENCE” REQUIREMENT?

CAN YOU BE INVOLVED WITH OTHER CO-OPS AND THE MCS HOMESCHOOL PROGRAM?

We do have families involved in both community homeschool co-ops and MCS Homeschool. One of the challenges these families have to overcome is the release times of the schedules. Some homeschool co-ops know their day schedule by May and expect commitment as soon as possible because the parents are used as teachers. MCS does not release the daily class schedule until July. Another consideration is the time that the co-op meets. Some meet once, twice or three times a week. Most of our MCS classes meet every day. Coordinating those 2 agendas can be tricky, but it can be done. If you are looking for specific classes to fill your home school regimen, it will be less likely you can commit to both.

CAN MY CHILD ATTEND CLASS FIELD TRIPS AS A HOMESCHOOL PARTNER?

Yes. The MCS teachers can schedule up to 2 educational trips plus community service and school spirit trips per grade per year. Your Homeschool student can attend whichever field trips are appropriate for his/her grade. The parent must provide transportation to the event and supervision during the event. If the away trip is obligated for the Homeschool student (like in the case of sports participation), then the Homeschool student can ride with school transportation and the Homeschool parent is not required to chaperone. If the extended trip is an overnight and out of state (as in the case of the 12th grade trip, the 8th grade trip and the BJU festival) then the event organizers will decide each year if Homeschool parents are needed as extra supervisors. All other trips will be considered on a case by case basis depending on accommodations.

WHAT ARE VOLUNTEER HOURS?

ARE THERE PAYMENT OPTIONS?

Yes. Homeschool partners can pay their tuition up front or monthly. If the family chooses the monthly option, they will be enrolled in the FACTS payment plan. There is a $45 fee for the set-up for that service for the Homeschool Partnership Program.
